Question: What does a large UK mobile phone network O2 have to do with the loss of youth rebellion?
I’ll come to that.
Plus ca change plus c’est la meme chose is an abiding and universal truth.(for non cheese eating surrender monkeys that means - the more things change the more they stay the same)
Not it would seem when it comes the youth rebellion. Since the 60’s western democracies have become used to popular dissent and political protestations.
Being some years since I rallied behind the popular causes of my youth I would expected to be challenged and shocked by the defiance of today’s youth. Alas not.
I’ve been wondering what happened to the ardent fury and fiery idealism of youth? Where is this generations heroic fighters for justice, the marching, spitting, selfless demonstrators against injustice and indignity?
Where are this generations punks? CND protesters, Where are the warriors of anti war demonstrations?
Who pacified the pacifists and beat them into submission?
Are the anarchists of the anti-globalisation movement the best our youth can muster?
Has our youth lost its will to challenge the status quo?
This is a subject i will continue in days to come.
Views welcome.
You're not the only one wondering. Vanity Fair is sponsoring an essay contest on just this very topic. Personally, I think consumer culture has done it. Everyone would rather have the latest Rock and Republic jeans for $200 than stand out on the street in the cold and fight the police.
