Ok. I’ve had a few responses from my real beauties about the real beauty campaign from Dove.
And there’s a little good news and more bad news for our friends from Dove…or should I say, their agency, O&M.
Let’s start with the bad. I am sure they have run the focus groups and already know this. But here it is.
My real beauties don’t read “real beauty” when they see these ads. Maybe it’s the wood and tree syndrome of working in advertising that obscures the ad execs ability to recognise reality when they see it. My ladies just read UNREAL.
Why unreal? Because even though the women featured may be real women- as in, not models – and although they are suitably proportioned to be accepted as “real” there are no unsightly stretch marks, cellulite or loose skin on show. Firm was the brief and firm these ladies look. Real or unreal? Judge for yourself.
There are more comments to follow but I am pressed for time and will get back to this subject later in the week.
Yeah. Agree with all that.
